Veľká a malá ryba

Short story

Malá ryba nebola spokojná. Hovorila si, že je príliš malá.

Práve na to myslela, keď spolu s veľkou rybou vplávala do siete. Obe ryby tak chytil rybár.

Veľkú rybu vytiahol v sieti z vody. Malá ryba však preplávala cez otvor v sieti a unikla.

Pomyslela si: „Niekedy je dobré byť malý.“

English summary · includes the ending

A small fish is unhappy about being so small. While she is thinking about her size, she swims into a fishing net alongside a large fish. Both fish are caught in the same net, but their different sizes lead to different results.

The fisherman lifts the large fish out of the water in his net. The small fish, however, can pass through one of the holes between the threads. She slips through the net and escapes. Being small allows her to get out of a situation in which the larger fish remains caught.

After escaping, the little fish thinks that there are times when being small can be useful. The very thing she had been complaining about has helped her. The story ends with this change in how she sees her size: what seemed like a disadvantage has become an advantage in these particular circumstances.
