Демьянова уха
Демьян угощал своего соседа Фоку ухой. Уха — это суп из рыбы. Фока уже съел три тарелки.
— Поешь ещё! — говорил Демьян. — Спасибо, я больше не могу. — Ну ещё одну тарелку! Суп такой вкусный!
Фока не хотел есть. По его лицу шёл пот. Но Демьян всё предлагал ему суп. Он даже попросил жену тоже уговорить гостя.
Фока всё-таки взял ещё одну тарелку и с трудом съел весь суп.
— Вот такого друга я люблю! — обрадовался Демьян. — Теперь съешь ещё тарелку!
Тогда Фока схватил свою шапку и быстро убежал домой. Он любил уху, но больше никогда не приходил к Демьяну.
Так бывает и с писателями. Даже хороший текст надо вовремя закончить, пока слушатели не устали.

Demyan is serving fish soup to his neighbour Foka. Although Foka has already eaten three plates and says he is completely full, his host keeps offering more. He praises the rich soup, points out the good pieces of fish, and asks his wife to encourage their guest as well.
Foka is already sweating, but he accepts another plate. With great difficulty, he finishes it. Demyan praises him as the kind of friend he likes, complains about proud people, and immediately offers yet another serving.
Foka can bear no more. He grabs his belt and hat and runs home. Although he likes fish soup, he never visits Demyan again.
The fable ends by addressing writers. Talent alone does not make people willing to listen forever. Writers must know when to stop, or their prose and poetry may become even less welcome than Demyan's endless soup.
