Când stăpânul nu-i acasă!
În cameră este liniște. Pe o farfurie, sus pe un raft, este o bucată de cașcaval. Este o brânză care miroase foarte bine.
Un șoricel simte mirosul din gaura lui, în spatele sobei. Vrea să iasă și să mănânce. Închide ochii, dar mirosul nu dispare. Se gândește pe unde poate ajunge la raft. Poate urca pe perdea și apoi pe materialul care acoperă peretele.
Dar motanul? Poate că nu este în cameră. Șoricelul mai așteaptă puțin.
Motanul este acolo. Stă ascuns după o pernă. Nu a mâncat cașcavalul pentru că vrea să atragă șoricelul. Când acesta iese, motanul sare și îl prinde. Se joacă puțin cu el și vrea să-l mănânce după aceea.
Deodată se aud pași. Vine Corbici, câinele! Motanul sare într-un loc deschis, sus în sobă. Șoricelul scapă și fuge în gaura lui.
Câinele simte mirosul de cașcaval, dar îl vede și pe motan. Latră. Locul este prea sus pentru el. Așteaptă ca motanul să coboare. Din când în când privește spre brânză. Toate cele trei animale se gândesc la ea.
Apoi vine stăpânul casei. Motanul se ascunde mai bine, iar câinele intră sub canapea. Șoricelul rămâne în gaură.
Omul este obosit după muncă. Simte mirosul și i se face foame. Ia cașcavalul și o bucată de pâine. Mănâncă cu poftă. Cele trei animale îl privesc: acum el are mâncarea pe care o doreau ele.

A mouse smells a piece of cheese left on a shelf. He wants to leave his hole behind the stove, but worries about the cat. He plans a route to the cheese and waits, hoping nobody is watching.
The cat is watching from behind a cushion. He has deliberately left the cheese untouched to attract the mouse. As soon as the mouse comes out, the cat catches him and plays with him, intending to eat him afterwards.
Suddenly, the dog Corbici arrives. The cat jumps into a high opening in the stove, and the mouse escapes into his hole. The dog smells the cheese but also sees the cat. Unable to reach him, he waits below. All three animals watch one another and think about the cheese.
Then the owner comes home. The cat hides further back, and the dog goes under the sofa. Hungry after work, the man eats the cheese with bread. Three pairs of jealous eyes follow him.
