Damon powierzył Arystowi kłopot, w którym bardzo potrzebował przyjacielskiej pomocy. Kochał piękną Irenę i starał się o jej rękę, lecz ani ona, ani jej rodzice nie byli jeszcze skłonni przychylić się do jego próśb. Zwracał się więc do przyjaciela jak do ostatniego ratunku.
Aryst odparł, że Damon doskonale zna jego szczere oddanie. Wśród wielu ludzi właśnie on jest mu szczególnie bliski. Po tych zapewnieniach Aryst zobowiązał się pójść do Ireny i jej rodziców, by poprzeć starania Damona.
Aryst nie zwlekał: udał się do nich, poznał Irenę i… sam został jej mężem.

Damon loves a beautiful woman named Irena and wants to marry her. His appeals have not yet persuaded either Irena or her parents. In this difficult situation, he turns to his friend Aryst and urgently asks for help.
Aryst answers with warm assurances of friendship. He tells Damon that he is especially dear to him and that he sincerely wishes him well. He promises to visit Irena and her family to support Damon's request. His words suggest that Damon can trust him to act on his behalf.
Aryst does not delay. He goes to the family, meets Irena and marries her himself. The person who offered to help Damon secure a marriage becomes the bridegroom instead.
The brief ending changes the meaning of all the friendly promises that came before it. Aryst's quick action fulfils the promise to make a visit, but produces a result very different from the one Damon sought.
