Potok i rzeka
Z góry płynął potok. Był bardzo głośny i śmiał się z rzeki. Ona płynęła spokojnie.
Śnieg na górze się stopił. Wody było coraz mniej. Głośny potok stał się małym strumykiem.
W końcu wpłynął do rzeki. Teraz był już tylko częścią jej wody.
English summary · includes the ending
A mountain torrent rushes noisily down from a high peak. It laughs at a river that is flowing quietly nearby. At first, the difference between them seems simple: the torrent is loud, while the river remains calm.
However, the torrent depends on the snow in the mountains. Once that snow has melted and the water above has run out, its impressive flow cannot continue. The noisy torrent becomes only a small stream.
Its change does not stop there. The stream flows into the river and joins its water. It finally loses even its separate existence as a stream. The quiet river receives the water of the torrent that previously mocked it.
The fable ends with this reversal. The torrent's loud beginning does not guarantee lasting importance, and the river's quietness does not make it insignificant. Its small natural scene invites readers to reconsider confidence based on noise and a showy appearance.
