Lis i kozioł

Short story

Lis wszedł do ogrodu. Zobaczył gęś i skoczył do niej. Ale wpadł do głębokiej beczki. Beczka była w ziemi. Zbierano w niej wodę, lecz teraz była pusta.

Lis nie mógł wyskoczyć. Ściany beczki były wysokie i gładkie. Patrzył do góry. Zobaczył kozła. Kozioł szukał wody i zajrzał do beczki.

Lis pochylił głowę. Udawał, że pije. Głośno mówił: — Jaka dobra woda! Jaka zimna i czysta! Nigdy takiej nie piłem. Chcę się w niej umyć, ale szkoda ją zabrudzić.

Kozioł zawołał: — Ty, rudy! Odsuń się od wody!

I skoczył do środka. Wtedy lis wskoczył mu na szyję, potem na rogi. Z rogów skoczył na belkę, czyli gruby kawałek drewna nad beczką. Wyszedł i uciekł.

English summary · includes the ending

A fox enters a garden and jumps towards a goose, but falls into a deep barrel sunk into the ground. It is used to collect water, although it is now empty. The sides are too smooth to climb and too high to jump over. The fox looks up and sees a goat searching for water.

He lowers his head and pretends to drink. Making happy drinking sounds, he praises the wonderful cold, clear water. He says he would like to wash himself in it, but would hate to make it dirty. There is actually no water there.

The goat shouts at the fox to move away from the water and jumps into the barrel. The fox immediately climbs onto the goat’s neck, then his horns, and from there onto a wooden beam above the barrel. He gets out and runs away. The poem ends with his escape.
