두더지의 사윗감
큰 돌부처 아래 땅속에 두더지 가족이 살았어요. 아버지는 딸을 아주 자랑스러워했어요. 그래서 딸의 남편은 세상에서 가장 힘이 세야 한다고 생각했어요.
아버지는 다른 두더지들에게 물었어요. 모두 하늘이 가장 대단하다고 했어요. 그래서 하늘을 찾아갔어요.
“내 딸과 결혼해 주세요. 당신이 세상에서 가장 대단하니까요.”
하지만 하늘은 말했어요. “해가 나보다 대단해요. 해가 떠야 내가 밝아져요. 해를 찾아가세요.”
아버지는 해에게 갔어요. 해는 말했어요. “구름이 나를 가리면 나는 보이지 않아요. 구름이 나보다 힘이 세요.”
다음에는 구름을 찾아갔어요. 구름도 딸과 결혼하지 않겠다고 했어요. “바람이 나를 밀어내요. 바람을 찾아가세요.”
바람은 또 다른 대답을 했어요. “아무리 세게 불어도 저 큰 돌부처를 움직일 수 없어요. 돌부처가 나보다 힘이 세요.”
아버지는 돌부처를 찾아갔어요. “당신이 가장 힘이 세군요. 내 딸과 결혼해 주세요.”
돌부처는 말했어요. “나는 비바람도 무섭지 않아요. 하지만 두더지가 나보다 힘이 세요. 내 발 아래에서 땅을 파면 내가 넘어질 수 있으니까요. 두더지를 찾아가세요.”
그 말을 듣고 아버지는 집으로 돌아갔어요. 딸의 남편이 될 두더지는 가까이에 있었어요. 딸은 젊은 두더지와 결혼했고, 둘은 행복하게 살았어요.

A mole is so proud of his daughter that he wants her to marry the greatest being in the universe. Other moles advise him to ask the sky. But the sky says the sun is greater because it brings daylight. The sun recommends the cloud, which can hide its light.
The cloud sends the father to the wind, which blows clouds away. The wind admits that it cannot move the enormous stone Buddha standing nearby. Tired and disappointed, the father visits the statue and describes his wonderful daughter.
The statue says it can resist sunshine, frost, storms and wind. However, a mole can dig beneath its base and make it fall. It therefore advises him to find a mole for his daughter. After his long search, the father returns home and chooses a handsome young mole. The wedding is joyful, and the couple live happily together. His search has brought him back to his own kind.
