English summary · includes the ending

A green frog and a yellow frog meet in a field. Each insults the other’s colour, and they begin to fight. The green frog jumps at its opponent, while the yellow frog kicks sand into its eyes.

A cold wind reminds them that winter is coming. They must go underground to sleep, so they agree to finish the fight in spring.

When the soil grows warm again, the green frog wakes first and calls the yellow frog outside. It asks whether the other frog remembers their fight. The yellow frog wants to wash the soil off its body before they continue, so both jump into a pond.

After washing, the green frog says how beautiful the yellow frog looks. The yellow frog praises the green frog too. They agree to stop fighting. The narrator explains that a good long sleep can put frogs, as well as people, in a better mood.
