English summary · includes the ending

A lonely tree stands in a field where few people pass. Its beautiful white flowers make it happy, but nobody comes to admire them. The wind carries their scent across the countryside to a field full of butterflies.

The butterflies decide to visit and hold a festival for the tree. On the journey, the smallest butterfly must rest beside a stream because its wings are weak. It finds a firefly and invites it along. The firefly worries that a night insect will not be welcome, but the butterfly persuades it to come.

The butterflies enjoy flying around the tree and feeding on the flowers. As evening approaches, they regret that darkness will soon end their games.

The firefly returns to the stream and brings many companions. Each settles inside a flower, turning the tree into a display of tiny lights. The delighted butterflies can now keep playing until late at night.
