Los dos conejos

Short story

English summary · includes the ending

A rabbit races through some bushes with dogs following him. He is running so fast that the narrator describes him as flying. A second rabbit comes out of his hole and asks his friend to stop and explain what is happening.

Out of breath, the first rabbit says that two greyhounds are chasing him. His companion can see the dogs, but insists that they are not greyhounds. He says they belong to another kind of hunting dog, called podencos.

The first rabbit strongly disagrees. He is sure of what he has seen. The second is just as certain and tells his friend that he does not understand the matter. They keep repeating their different answers instead of escaping.

While the rabbits argue, the dogs reach them and catch both. The final advice is clear: people who leave an important problem aside to discuss small, unimportant differences should learn from these two rabbits.
