The Table and the Chair
The Table was too hot, and his feet hurt. He wanted to go outside with the Chair.
“Let's go for a walk,” he said. “We can talk and get some air.”
“But we can't walk,” said the Chair. “You know that.”
“We can try,” said the Table. “We have the same number of legs. Why can't we walk on two?”
So they went out. They walked slowly around the town. Their legs made a happy, noisy sound. People came to look at them.
“Look! The Table and the Chair are out for a walk!” they said.
The two friends went down a small street towards a castle. The castle was in a valley, lower than the land around it. But they lost their way. They walked around all day and could not find their home.
At last, they paid a duck, a beetle and a mouse to help them. These three animals took them home.
“What a lovely walk!” the Table and the Chair said quietly to each other. “Let's have beans and bacon for dinner.”
The duck, the mouse and the beetle had dinner. Then they danced on their heads before going to bed.
