Der Löwe blieb still stehen.
English summary · includes the ending
A farmer sends away his old horse because it can no longer work properly in the fields. He says the horse may stay only if it brings him a lion. The sad horse meets a fox near the forest and explains what has happened.
The fox offers to help. He tells the horse to lie still and look dead. Then he brings a lion over, promising it a good meal. He offers to tie the horse’s tail to the lion so the lion can pull the horse into its cave and eat there.
The lion agrees and stands still. Instead, the fox uses the horse’s tail to tie the lion’s legs together. At the fox’s signal, the horse jumps up and drags the roaring lion to the farmer’s door.
The farmer changes his mind. He lets the horse stay and gives it plenty of food for the rest of its life.
